The Mind to Control Future Gaming

Video games have been around for generations, but it is not until recently that we have seen great innovations in the online gaming industry, such as the release of the Nintendo Wii which uses amazing motion sensor technology.

But this is only the beginning, the era of video games is about to tremendously change; we will be blown away the sheer way in which we play the ultimate console. The process is already becoming a reality by the launch of the new Emotiv headset, which is the first brain computer interface. Basically the new technology works by detecting and processing real time brain activity patterns, via small voltage changes in the brain caused by the firing of neurons.

At the moment in total the apparatus has the ability to pick up over 30 different expressions, emotions and actions. The console has made many avid gamers ecstatic about the prospects of the future gaming world. Films such as The Matrix where Neo plugs himself in a head set are now set to become a reality with the latest technological advancements.

Being able to control a computer with your mind has always been a major task; people will be able to access different worlds by just plugging in a headset a relaxing back, people will be able to run up walls and fly in the air, all of course being a virtual reality world.

Emotiv has so far tested its equipment on various people all with great results; the social experience that people are going to get from games in the future is a real core in the development of these next generation consoles.

But a fact that I find worrying myself is the repercussions that these types of systems may have to the world. It may disconnect the human race from the real world, people will have better lives in the virtual reality world then they would in real life. It may become an addiction whereas people will want to stay plugged in all day, so that they can escape the stresses and strains of the real world. They may forget to eat, drink and sleep and overall it may turn out to be a horrible fate.

A great idea that would need to have more thought placed into it, the games world is changing both off line and online and we should do our best to keep up with it all.
