The Sciphone i9+++ (sometime called CECT i9+++), a third generation of i9, was released in April 2009. It is often mistaken with the i9 3G, yet they are two different models. Externally, the i9 3G is thinner, lighter (108 g against 128 g) and the inscription “iTouch Phone” is written on the battery cover, where as “Phone 16Gb” is written on the i9 +++. The i9+++ also carries a telescopic stylus and a battery of a larger capacity: 1200 mhA against 1000 for the i9 3G.
Compared to the i9+, the i9+++ offers a new firmware that improves the phone reliability. The screen is also more sensitive. Its glossy black shell now opens by sliding downwards, as on the previous version; the clips were difficult to open.
The i9+++ is not produced by Sciphone as its name might lead one to believe, but by OEM’s from Shenzhen. Therefore, some models have a 3 pages menu, others a 6 and even a 10 pages menu for some models. Whatever the number of pages, i9+++ features remain mainly the same, just that certain functions on the 6 or 10 pages phones’ menu, are accessible directly without going through the submenus. A nice little detail about the icons: it is possible to order them.
Remaining features: it is still dual SIM, quad band (can be used worldwide), Bluetooth, GPRS to surf the Internet, and has an accelerometer to automatically adapt images and videos. Its internal memory of 183 k can be extended up to 16 GB by adding a MicroSD memory card. It’s multilingual, multimedia and integrates Java allowing it to access to hundreds of compatible applications.
The i9 +++ is in this version, very successful. That makes it with the Sciphone i68+, one of China’s most popular phones.
