But before that you need to recognize the problem, why your computer is running slow. The culprit could turn out to be combination of things, but in most of the cases a little simple maintenance can help in boosting the performance of your computer.

If your computer has been slowed down due to fragmentation! Whenever the information is accessed by a computer on a hard drive, it must seek out the requested data. If files are placed on the drive, then this can occur speedily. However, with continuous use of files, they become fragmented. This causes increase in the retrieval of all parts of the files, hence slowing down the performance of the computer. “Defrag” tools are built into most of the operating systems and are also available online.

If your hard drive is almost full! A full hard drive hampers the performance of the computer, leaving little available space for read and write processes. You can enhance the performance by adding a second drive or by distributing your data.

If your Windows registry corrupted! Sometimes, the registry can be jumbled with incorrect values or false programs that do not uninstall properly. A registry cleaner can restore your PC to a clean and efficient state.

If you have currently upgraded your operating system! If you notice that the computer have been slowed down after installing a new operating system, it could mean that the new operating system requires more Random Access Memory (RAM) to run smoothly.

If you computer have been slowed down because you have not scanned it for computer viruses and spywares! There could be the reason that your PC have been slowed down due to spyware that get installed superstitiously. The tracks which are chosen by spywares, when you are using your computer resources, are hidden. Spyware scanner can check and remove spywares.

It could be that your PC has been slowed down due to a virus that is interfering with system processes. While some computer viruses are annoying, other can cause repeated crashing or the deletion of significant data. Thus, there is a need to have an antivirus program running on your computer otherwise your computer can pick one or more bugs.
