Maintenance Tips For iPod Cases

Well after being used, the iPod, with its large hard drive and iconic image, can still fetch a decent resale value. Nicks and scrapes do lessen the resale value of the device, but with the assistance of iPod cases, users can maximize its value. Case makers provide different levels of protection for users, from soft silicon to hard plastics. Even though the case is used for protection, the case itself also needs protection and care to double its lifespan. The maintenance differs from case to case but they all require that a user examine for ruptures and splinters.

Silicon Cases

Plastic and poly-urethane may offer bulkier solutions for protection, but silicon offers a thinner, more elastic backup. Made for defense against minor scratches and scuffs, silicon iPod cases make use of the material to grant the device protection without adding too much weight. Unfortunately, silicon must have constant care to preserve its look.

Pull off the case at least once every two weeks to sterilize and to keep the case looking new. With the assistance of a lint remover, go over the inside and outside of the case to remove any unwanted lint. Using Q-tips, brush the inside and outside area of the case, removing any dirt and grime. With the case off, inspect it for any holes and openings that may appear from usage. These holes and fractures can eventually expand in size and force you to discard the case, so be aware to not pull or stretch the tears. If the rip becomes bigger than a nickel, toss the case.

Plastic and Poly-Urethane Cases

Plastic and poly-urethane cases protect an iPod using semi-hard plastics to provide the necessary strength against drops and scrapes. Unfortunately, a common pitfall of plastic and poly-urethane is that if dropped, the case may crack. As with silicon cases, you must inspect the inside and outside of the case for damage caused by cracks. If neglected, minor fractures will turn into major fractures, rendering the case useless.

When using iPod touch cases, detach the case from the device and clean the silver edges of the iPod of dirt and soot. Using Q-tips, wipe the interior of the plastic or poly-urethane case of dust and lint that may appear within the corners. Clean off any dirt and dust that may become apparent, using a semi-moist towel.
