Satellite Internet For Dummies

An Internet Provider can be connected from cable to DSL and fiber to the little local sub contracted Internet providers. Here are a few tips for comparing.

Cable companies can offer the fastest speed, usually at a good price to start, and then they will go up after a promotional period. So I called the local cable company and to my surprise (since they advertise it as being available in my area) I was told by the sales rep that the high speed Internet was not available to me.

Today, the Internet spoils us, well most of us with high speed connections. Everything is available at the touch of a button, or click of a mouse. Unless of course you, are in one of those lost in time areas referred to as rural America.

Those of us who live, or have moved to an area designated as rural are pretty much living back in the days of no Internet. The speeds we have access to are dial up, and by the time we receive the information we are looking for, we probably would have been better served driving to our local libraries.

Using better judgment, I began searching for possible High-speed providers in my area. The local phone company would not continue the lines another two miles to my house so they would only offer me dial up. The local cable company did not offer high speed, I guess I should not be surprised they don’t offer much in the way of Television either.

I began looking into Wireless Broadband suppliers, this sounded like it may work for me, but I quickly found out that even with 3G networks, they are only as good as the cell phone signal your receiving. Not to mention the limitation on the amount you can download is very low, and the cost if you go over was a bit too expensive.

I began to look at the only other option available to me, Satellite Internet. The two companies that I checked out were WildBlue and HughesNet. They deliver in the same method, but with different technology. They both have a Fair Access Policy (download threshold) limitation, however Wild Blue spreads theirs over 30-days so it is less likely to affect their customers, then the daily limit HughesNet offers. There were some upfront costs for activation, but a standard installation was free. Standard Installation entails mounting the dish to my home.

Anyway, the system was installed and before the tech left I had Internet service. Compared to my dialup, the speed is amazing and fun.

I can now surf the Internet without having to wander away from my computer so I don’t smash it. The information once again is accessible in a much faster manner. My computer does not Time Out when I am downloading, files, pictures, music, or web sites. The 7.5 gigabytes of download threshold has not been a factor.

I would tell anyone living in the rural land that time forgot, that the best option for reliable Internet service is Satellite Internet from WildBlue. Having had DSL in the past, I can say that the speeds are more constant with WildBlue. My DSL speeds would fluctuate depending on the time of day, I am assuming because there were more users on during peak times slowing things down. The Fair Access Policy is actually a benefit to an Internet users like me.

Downloading Free Music to Your Ipod

We all love things that come to us without any price tag. Since iPods have become one of the most common music player in the world we all are constantly searching for website that would allow us to download free music so that we can expand our vast collection of music and carry that music all the time so that we can listen to our favorite music, anywhere and anytime we want. However, downloading music from free music websites can be too dangerous because not all websites are genuine and reliable. Most of these free music websites are just a hoax to attract more and more people to the site and make them click on unwanted links that would finally lead them to some another website that there are least interested in. Hence, you should be very careful when you are downloading music from such free music websites.

There are plenty of free music websites that you will find when you type in a keyword and google it, but only a few out of this huge list will be reliable and virus-free which means that you will have to keep your patience and try and find a website which you think does not take you for a ride by clicking on various links. Genuine websites that are available on the internet are very much to the point because they would never want their visitors to get frustrated by clicking on various links and pictures that would navigate them away from the website.

While downloading free music to your iPod make sure you have your antivirus software ready and running because it could be that the file you are downloading has some potential worm or virus that would instantly spread in your local hard drive. With your anti-virus running the virus will not be able to move further into your hard drive because the anti-virus software will instantly recognize it as a harmful file and quarantine it and delete it.

If you are looking for a better free music website, than you can get connected to music forums and blogs where you will find more information about various music websites. You can go through the comments left by people who have downloaded file from a particular free music website and that would be a good indicator of whether you should go ahead and download your favorite song from that website or not.

Apart from free music websites you can also find free music files on any torrents and P2P websites but make sure that you read the comments before downloading the files. Many torrents websites have a space where users can type in their experience about downloading the file and also about the quality of the file they had downloaded. This again works like an indicator and also saves your time because it helps you to decide if you should really go ahead and download this file or look for a better file elsewhere.

Another way to get free music for your iPod is to get socially connected with a lot of friends online. There are many people online who have tons of music files on their drives and therefore if you are looking for a particular song you can request them on a forum to upload that song or email you as an attachment so that you can transfer it to your iPod.

Pros And Cons Of E Ink Book Readers

E Ink is the company behind the amazing growth of the e ink ebook readers. Their electronic ink and electronic paper display technology has helped to create an entirely new arena in useful ultra-light portable devices. Their display technology is the magic behind all of the finest e ink ebook readers on the market, including the Amazon Kindle, and the Sony Readers.

The Magic Behind E Ink Ebook Readers

What makes the E Ink displays so important is the ultra-thin, low power displays. These displays are designed to give you the look and feel of a standard printed book using their electronic ink technology. With the low power consumption of their screens it is possible to create e ink ebook readers which can work for an entire week on a single charge. Compare this to the displays on most notebooks and netbooks, which consume a high percentage of the power, and are one of the key reasons you have limited battery life on your portable PC.

The E Ink technology creates a very high contrast display making the grays and blacks pop off of the white background in great clarity. Where reading many small displays in the past could cause eye strain, these e ink ebook readers displays are very easy on the eye, and highly readable. Even displays as large as the Kindle DX with its 9″ screen consume very little power, allowing for thousands of page turns on a single charge.

You might believe any small screen is capable of such feats, but then consider the length a charge lasts on an iPod Touch. With the full color screen of an even smaller size than a Kindle or Sony Reader they cannot even come close to matching the usage on a single charge. When you wish to read a book, you do not want to be limited by recharging your e ink ebook readers all the time. You want to be lost in your book, and to be able to continue reading without even giving it a second thought.

Every avid reader knows to be able to read large volumes of text, you must have very clear text, and no eye strain. It is easy to continue reading on the E Ink displays hours on end. Compare this to reading on a computer screen, especially a small screen. Most people find their eyes becoming tired and strained in just a couple hours. You will find with the e ink ebook reader this is never an issue. You will feel just as comfortable reading for hours on your e ink ebook readers as you would reading a printed book or magazine. The text is just as clear, and equally high contrast.

With the advent of the display technology from E Ink the ebook reader market exploded. They are quickly becoming one of the most sought after electronic devices on the market. When you can instantly download books, carry a full library with you, it makes sense every avid reader would want in e ink ebook readers. It is amazing how the new technology from a company like E ink can rapidly transform a market, and our world.
