Chemistry Learning For Undergraduates

Carol Snyder (American Association of Colleges and Universities) observed that change in undergraduate STEM might be supported more effectively by collaborative work in departments than by the efforts of individual faculty members. Heidi (National Research Council) asked what the speakers are doing to measure the goals of developing positive attitudes toward science, noting that increasing students’ science knowledge will not necessarily lead to changes in their behavior or degree of motivation to learn. For example, some physicians smoke, despite their knowledge of the overwhelming evidence of the health dangers of smoking. Middle-camp responded that she believes that the Chemistry in Context goal to develop students’ motivation for lifelong science learning is more important than the goal to help them learn specific chemistry content.

This is why the Chemistry in Context team selects chemistry content that matters to people for inclusion in the curriculum, she said. Linda (National Science Foundation) asked Middle-camp about directly introducing chemistry concepts related to real-life issues, without first introducing students to the basic topics of general chemistry, which she considers to be the scaffolding on which to build new understanding. Celeste Carter (National Science Foundation), who teaches a 9-month course in biotechnology at a community college, said that many of her students, including some with advanced degrees, do not understand basic concepts in biology. She said she tries to build conceptual understanding through discussion of scientific methods and through laboratory activities.

James Stith (American Institute of Physics) asked how departments can be held accountable for ensuring that prerequisite courses provide the basic understanding students need to benefit from more advanced courses. Middle-camp responded to Linda that a scaffold in Chemistry in Context would be the real-life issue, such as “the air we breathe” or “the water we drink.” Grant said that people have very different definitions of the word “scaffold”; he thinks of it as an awareness of one’s own learning process and how one builds understanding in response to instruction. Mestre responded that he uses class time to scaffold student learning, drawing on his own expertise, and asks students to read more basic content material outside class. Responding to the question about holding departments accountable, Mestre observed that new doctoral graduates lack knowledge of active learning strategies and proposed that departments should be held accountable for bringing their newly hired faculty up to speed on the findings of cognitive research and their implications for instruction. Moderator Adam Gamoran offered three concluding remarks.

First, he observed that the evidence underlying promising practices in STEM is thin, as each speaker had described local, anecdotal evidence. Second, he suggested that cognitive scientists, educational testing experts, and disciplinary experts collaborate to develop new forms of assessment to guide STEM teaching and learning. Third, he called for increasing the scope and scale of research to support development of approaches that are useful across different faculty members, departments, and institutions. Personal Blogs Edge Out Traditional Media For Technology PR

There is no question that social media and news sites are important when it comes to all types of public relations, including Technology PR. In particular, for technology PR, all types of media are relevant: from business news to social media to professional blogs. However in particular, personal blogs seem to have the most sustainable effect on Technology PR for the long term.

In May of this year, Bob Geller examined how news spread online and drew some interesting conclusions about the tech sector and the role of Technology PR. He commented on how blogger influence may be lower at the time that a new technology is introduced, but their influence seems to have a longer lasting effect. This may be the case because blogs represent the public’s response to a technology and the true merit of the innovation.

Mainstream media like news can provide first-hand news about the product with insight from the technology’s developers. Geller says that mainstream media is in fact the best at disseminating content. In other words, major news agencies are effective in creating that “initial buzz” and therefore should not be ignored when it comes to Technology PR. However personal blogs, even more so than mainstream media and professional blogs, have greater success sustaining a technology’s reputation. It is the responsibility of Technology PR firms to monitor both.

This research gives insight to Technology PR firms and helps to realize the importance of personal blogs and the long-term effect that they can have on a reputation in the tech sector. It is necessary to integrate both personal blogs and traditional media into the efforts of Technology PR programs. Specific strategies for targeting personal bloggers can include adding them to media lists, or reaching out to them via social media outlets like Twitter. The possibilities are endless when it comes to Technology PR and should be strongly considered when it comes to building and sustaining a favorable reputation for a client of your Technology PR practice.

How to Find The Best Training Software For You?

There are several online training software, but you need to find one that suits your needs. The best training software are sophisticated in terms of security but are easy to use. It should be easy to scale up and it should also not cost you a lot. The provider of such training software can make sure that you do not have to devote a lot of time and resources in terms of skilled human personnel and financial, to manage it.

An automatic solution

When you are looking for training software, it is cost effective to seek a service provider who can automate the complete process of training. Such a training software can be centralized and does not require to be installed else where. This means that money can be saved on hardware and infrastructure. It also ensures that your solution has the same standards everywhere and the people you recruit and train are on par with standards of your organization. That apart the training courses that you develop for one place or one process, can be conveyed easily to other locations of work.

The issue of security and stability

Training software should be secure and should be unbreakable. For this only the highest standards of encryption are to be used. A good training software solutions provider will make sure that your software learning packages are safe and that there is no need to spend more on security. Managing the software and transferring data on the Internet are just as safe. A good provider will assess the security set up every often to make it robust. Stability of the software is also important. The training module should be up and running most of the time, so that your employees or students can access it any time and anywhere in the world.

Scalable solutions

Any software solution should be flexible so that it can accommodate the growing size of your company. Good training software will not need many changes and will not take much time to be deployed after a scale up. The requirement of additional hardware will be taken care of by the provider at no cost. That is the hallmark of a good services provider.
