According to the FDA, LASIK eye surgery is based on relatively new technology. The first laser for LASIK was approved in 1998. This means the long-term risks of the procedure are still not known. One way to avoid this risk is to opt for an alternative laser eye surgery that does not involve the creation of a corneal flap, such as PRK, LASEK or Epi-LASIK.

Driving at night or in foggy weather may prove difficult or impossible for individuals who suffer from these symptoms. 3. Discomfort from Dry Eyes. Sometimes LASIK can result in a condition called dry eye syndrome. It is impossible to cut into the cornea without severing some of the nerves that signal the lacrimal gland to produce tears. This interruption of the normal tear production process may be temporary or permanent. Severe dry eye symptoms cause discomfort and blurred vision. Lubricating treatments or the use of ductal plugs to keep tears from draining out of the eye too fast may be prescribed to treat dry eye syndrome.
