With information technology advancing at an ever increasing pace, there are inevitably going to be new products on the market to help recruitment specialists do their jobs more efficiently.

At a recent Recruitment Technology conference several new products were launched and a couple of them caught my eye.

One product I was impressed by essentially aggregates all public information about a candidate or client so it can be viewed easily in one place. The information is gathered from a variety of social media sites and other online channels (such as reviews on Amazon). The software also automatically removes any data that might contravene EEOC or OFCCP regulations.

Another product which interested me was one that allows companies to utilise the social media connections of its employees with an automated process of ‘viral job marketing’. The product has been on the market for a year now but it has recently been enhanced with graphical metrics, hundreds more channels for job-posting and a further degree of automation.

Only time will tell if these applications make the impact that their developers hope, however products such as these certainly indicate an intention by developers to tap into the vast and growing amount of data that is available on Social Media. Long gone are the days where you had to network extensively via phone to find out where the best candidates and potential clients were. New technologies will never replace traditional methods of networking (speaking over the phone etc) but they may automate the more mundane tasks and allow us, as recruiters, to work more efficiently and creatively for our clients.

Having a pool in  your backyard is fun, of that there is no doubt, but they do come with a price tag when it comes to  water consumption, water evaporation, water treatment using chemicals, gas and electric zapping filtration and pumping systems.  Advances in technology with an eye toward reducing waste and energy consumption can aid to build an eco-friendly pool.

Equipments and chemicals used for pools are crucial to the maintenance of the pool. Replacement of outdated equipment could save an estimated $350 to $700 annually;  also switching to a salt water system instead of chlorine and other chemicals for sanitizing the pool can decrease the cost for maintenance.

Salt-chlorine generator which costs about $1,400 and purchase of chlorine and other chemicals costing about $350 to $500 annually can be more cost effective if you purchase sale bags that come with a price tag of about $8. Salt will help to avoid poisonous elements of chemicals which can be unhealthy. 

Many pool contractors support the use of new technology to avoid “Chemical soup” and to make the pools safer.  Using salt does not mean your backyard pool will take on ocean-like qualities since only one teaspoon of salt is used per gallon of water for your pool.

A salt based chlorine system is gentler to the hair, skin and eyes and it is also more gentle on the pool liner — something that could help keep your liner viable for a longer time and at the cost of  $3000 to install a new liner, that is a technology worth embracing.

Another way to cut back on expenses could be with the installation of a new pumping system. Even though it might come with an initial outlay of  about $1,300, you could see a decrease in your electric bills by close to half.  Using new gas heaters and employing geothermal heaters can cut energy useage by up to 80% in some cases.  If you live in area of the country where sun is plentiful you might want to consider installing solar heating panels.

The world we live in is constantly changing. We are always searching for new technology to make everything faster, smoother, better, and more effortless, and the car industry is certainly no exception. We have moved from the single Model T to thousands of different models that can be customized with almost any feature the owner would like. Our cars can now direct us where to go, reroute us when we get lost or encounter heavy traffic, parallel park themselves, and call for help if we are in an accident. With features like these already available, the focus now switches to what car technologies are still to come, and what else our cars will be able to do for us in the very near future.

One of the Tecmost important features of automobiles has always been, and will always be, safety. BMW will be adding advanced safety features to its new models that will detect oncoming cars from multiple directions and laser-based collision avoidance systems. In addition, BMW will also be introducing a feature that helps cars sense and avoid pedestrians. This system is not perfect, as it requires the pedestrian to wear a transporter in order to be detected, but it is certainly a step in the right direction.

Mercedes is also starting to implement Pre-Safe systems, which anticipate crashes and prepare the car and passengers. When this system detects a possible accident, it warns the driver, then prepares the airbags, tightens seatbelts, reduces engine power, and primes the brakes so that any touch will apply their full force. Some high-end automakers have also begun introducing adaptive brake lights. Adaptive brake lights alert the cars behind you to how quickly you are braking and how suddenly you are stopping. These brake lights will show normally, unless you brake in an emergency, in which case they will blink rapidly, warning other drivers.

A feature many people think of when they hear the words “car technology” is self-driving cars. While we are not there yet, current technologies continue to bring us closer to the reality of driverless automobiles. Adaptive cruise control takes almost all of the effort out of driving on highways and for long distances. Adaptive cruise control differs from regular cruise control in that it senses other cars on the road. The adaptive feature then adjusts the speed of the car to the speed of the person in front, and maintains a safe driving distance between the automobiles.

Since the economic crash, increase in fuel cost, and rise in concern about the environment, reducing fuel consumption has become an important issue. BMW will be introducing a navigation system that will include a setting to allow which route the driver would like to take: the standard, quick, or economical. They will also be including a public transport information system, which will be able to tell the driver if it would actually be quicker to use public transportation than to drive to their destination. Many new cars also now feature an economy setting, which disconnects the engine when the driver is not accelerating. The economy mode may also be turned on by the driver, and will turn off non-essential features, turn down the air conditioning, and may enable cruise control.

People who like to watch satellite-TV really like to watch satelliteTV on PC for its convenience. Until recently, being able to watch satellite-TV on PC could be done through the use of PCTV cards that were either installed directly on the motherboard or were used externally by way of a USB port. These cards enabled users to watch television programs using their computer screen rather than watching their regular television set.

The problem with these cards was that there were not affordable, usually priced around $200 and going up. However, with the new satellite TV software, there’s no reason to watch regular satellite TV. After it’s been installed, you use the program like you would your regular satellite television but instead of seeing 100s of channels, you see thousands from all over the world.

You can watch movies, cartoons, news, sports, etc. No doubt, there will be a channel you will want to watch.

Benefit 2 – Monetary Savings

When you choose to use satellite-TV on PC, you tend to save yourself a monthly fee every month. In fact, all you need to do with satellite-TV on PC is purchase the software for a one-time fee of about $50. Remember with satellite-TV providers, you must pay additional fees to watch premium movie channels or live sports. Yet, with the PC satellite software, you don’t need to worry with this any longer.

When the weather is bad outside, it can be annoying to see the picture on your television die out. That’s because the transmission is getting distorted and scrambled so interruptions are likely. Mobile manufacturer Nokia have just announced a new mobile phone today, the latest in its collection of Classic mobile phones. The Nokia 6212 Classic is different from the last few releases by Nokia because it is NFC enabled.

Near Field Communication is the next generation of mobile technology, which is based on the current Bluetooth technology. It allows mobile users to transfer content from their phone to either other phones or devices seamlessly, and more importantly for free – just like normal Bluetooth works. However NFC can also be used with payment systems – which have recently been trialled for public transport and ticketing systems. So you could end up paying for a train journey by simply waving/touching your phone to a special payment system at the train station.

While Near Field Communication does sound like an innovative and exciting new technology sadly it could take a while for relevant companies to pick up on the new technology and implement it, so it could end up simply being a redundant feature on your phone for a little while.

Besides the NFC the Nokia 6212 Classic also has all the standard phone features such as 2 megapixel camera, microSD memory card slot, MP3 player, FM radio, Bluetooth, miniUSB and a secondary camera for video calling on 3G. So it is a decent mobile phone, with the added benefit of using Near Field Communication to transfer files, and hopefully in the future for much more interesting uses.

So if you are looking for a Nokia that is up to date with the latest NFC technology look no further than the Nokia 6212 Classic – which should be hitting the shops in autumn 2008.
