Get the Most From Your Facebook Pages

Get the Most From Your Facebook Pages

Facebook Pages are the most straightforward way for businesses to have a presence on the Facebook social networking website. A Page is similar in its appearance to a standard Facebook profile (which are used by individuals who join Facebook), except that it’s designed to be the Facebook profile of a business.

People are becoming comfortable with conducting an increasing amount of their online activities exclusively on Facebook. Rather than using a search engine to find a product or service they need, some people are simply asking their Facebook friends for recommendations, or doing a search on Facebook itself. If you don’t have a Page set up for your business, you’ll be limited in how many of these potential customers can find you.

Begin the sign-up process by visiting the Pages area of Facebook. When you create a new account, try to choose a Page name that is as close to your real business name as possible. This will make it easier for people who you already do business with to find you on Facebook.

After you set up your Page, you can begin to build a following for your business. It’s important to keep in mind, however, that social networking tools such as Facebook are generally not very effective sales tools, at least in the traditional sense of the term “sales.” Facebook users who receive sales pitches on their Facebook walls tend to view the companies making them rather negatively. In fact, companies who try to use Facebook as a direct sales tool are quite often viewed rightly or wrongly, as “spammers.”

Instead, you would be better served by viewing your Facebook Page as an opportunity to build a following or community around your business. For example, whenever someone follows or becomes a “fan” of your company’s Facebook Page, any time you post a status update or link or other item to your Page, your followers will get a notification in their main news feed. You can use your Page to announce new product offerings, sales or special offers that you may be conducting, or other interesting news about your business.

Resist the temptation to try to sell to these people by posting multiple status updates or notes every day. If your followers feel overwhelmed by the volume of updates from you (especially if it seems to them like some of the updates are “forced”, or not noteworthy information), there’s a good chance they’ll simply un-follow you, and you’ll lose Facebook as a means of reaching that customer.

You should also consider how your business’ Facebook Page provides a new way to engage in a dialogue with your customers and potential customers. Ask customers what kind of new products and services they’d like to see from you, or how they might want you to refine your existing offerings. Once the conversation is underway, you may find that a greater number of people participate.

Sometimes the “business intelligence” you gain from your Facebook Page is something you’d never be able to get any other way.

GPS Satellite Constellation

There currently are 24 operational satellites as part of the GPS satellite constellation, that orbit the earth with a orbital radius of ~16,000 miles (from the center of the earth). The satellite orbits are spaced out in 6 orbital planes (orbital plane is the plane surface formed by the path traced by the orbit of the satellite – it is nearly circular). The six orbital planes are separated by an angle of 60 degrees. Refer to the constellation figure below. Four to six satellites occupy each orbital plane.

In addition to the 24 operational satellites, there currently are 6 satellites in orbit that are maintained as spares, should any of the 24 operational satellites malfunction. The six spare satellites are kept operational for users to receive signals from them just like from the 24 satellites. However, the U.S. Government does not guarantee their availability at all times.

Remember that the GPS satellites are being launched since 1974. Satellites like everything else have limited lifespan. The GPS satellites have been designed to provide a lifespan of ~8 years. New satellites are being launched to space at regular intervals of time to make up for satellites that have lived out their lifespan.

When the satellites are launched into space, they are inserted to pre-calculated positions in their orbital planes. The pre-calculations ascertain that a GPS receiver located anywhere on earth and at all times, can receive signals from at least four satellites. This is required because earth blocks the GPS signals from passing through it. For a GPS receiver to be able to receive a signal from a satellite, the straight line-of-sight line should not have any obstructions in between. Since the satellites are flying around the earth, not all satellites are visible to a GPS receiver located somewhere on earth. Thus, though there are 30 operational satellites, not all of them can be visible at a location on earth, at any given time.

Little-Known Tips For Keeping Your Computer Safe When Browsing Online

When browsing online, it’s important that you don’t expose your information out to any and everyone. Because sometimes when you do your best to avoid exposing your information to everyone, it can still get out via viruses and harmful programs called malware.

There is some information about you that gets exposed everyday without you knowing about it. This information comes in the form of your IP address, your country, the type of operating system you have, the kind of internet browser you use, and even where you last visited online. People get this information about you when you visit certain websites where they track their user’s activities.

If this sound alarming to you, then you should know that this is standard procedure. Companies do it everyday without you knowing it, and now that you do know about it, you should do something about it.

There is something called a “proxy server” that will allow you to browse the web anonymously. Proxy servers cloaks your IP address and other information so that it is much harder for people to find out certain information about you. Proxy servers aren’t 100% guaranteed to stop the leakage of information, but it’s a good step in the right direction.

To get a proxy server, you can go online and buy one or get one for free. Sites such as guardster.com and shadowsurf.com allows for anonymous web browsing through their site for free. They both also allow you to type in a URL that no one can track, and they will cloak it for you. There are more types of free proxy servers online but these two are great and are ones that I use personally myself.

Once again, a proxy server won’t protect you 100%, but it’s a great way to stop amateurs from trying to steal your information online. In addition to proxy servers, there are additional steps you can take to protect yourself online.

One thing you can do is use an encrypted connection when browsing online. The Mozilla Firefox allows you to browse “privately”, thereby shielding from others the sites that you visit online.

You should clear out your cookies after each browsing session. If you’re using Internet Explorer, you can go to Tools, and then Internet Options, and then select the delete button and a range of options will appear to you. One of these options will be to delete cookies, and this is what you want to do.

Cookies are nothing but text files that hold information about the sites that you browse to. So for example, when you sign-in to check your email everyday, once you sign-in a cookie is created and it stores this information in a text file on your hard drive. You want to delete it so that hackers online can’t hack into your computer and find files such as these.

On top of this, you can adjust your browser to not display Javascript and Active-X content from showing on your computer. Doing so will hinder your browsing experience however, so you will want to consider the pros and cons of doing so before you take this action.

All of these tips will go a long way in keeping your computer system secure. I highly suggest you start using them today so that you can start browsing safer right now.
