How to Use the New Cardmate Manual Business Card Cutter

A good business card is a must-have item for any professional, but sometimes the cost of having such items made can be a bit prohibitive. One solution is to create your own cards on your Mac or PC. However, in the past, cutting them could be difficult because it can be hard to cut in a perfectly straight line with scissors and there’s always a chance things could go astray when using a craft knife. Although there are card cutters already on the market (and they are almost always pricey), few are as convenient and affordable as the CardMate Manual Business Card Cutter. This is a great new gadget that will make creating your own business cards ridiculously easy.

Here’s how you use it.

Design your own! Designing your own business cards can be fun and you can do it with a lot of different software packages, including the ever-popular Microsoft Word. When you’re satisfied with how your work looks, print it out on your laser or inkjet printer. The CardMate can cut letter-sized bond paper as well as card stock, so choose the paper you like best. Make sure that there 10 cards on your paper and that they each measure 2″ x 3.5″. There should be a 3/4″ border on the right- and left-hand sides, and a 1/2″ border on the top and bottom. You can download a card template off of the Internet to help you get the right dimensions. Get ready to cut. When you’re ready to cut, take your paper over to the CardMate. Place one sheet of paper in the rear feed tray and make sure it’s snug, but not too tight. When your paper is lined up, begin turning the handle. In a short amount of time, you’ll have two 11-inch long strips with your work on them. Then, take one of the strips and put it back in the forward feed tray horizontally. Then turn the handle again. Just about instantly, you’ll have perfectly cut business cards. Repeat the last step with the other strip, and then repeat the whole process all over again if you have more items to cut. Please note that you should only cut one sheet a paper at a time. Attempting to cut more will just end up damaging your device.

As you can see, the CardMate is really easy to use. If you follow all the steps correctly, chances are you’ll be able to cut up to 60 cards in about a minute. And, perhaps best of all, this little gadget is very affordable. You can purchase it for around $100.00 and when you consider how much it costs to have someone else design and print your business cards, buying one of these units seems like an extremely cost-effective move.

The CardMate Manual Business Card Cutter is the machine to use when you want to save money on your cards. Considering business cards are a staple of professional life, having one of the devices makes a lot of sense…especially since it will help you save money.

The Internet and Cyber Crime

Internet Security has become an umbrella term encompassing everything from hacker detection to anti-virus protection. The focus of this article is on how employee misuse of the Internet can affect your bottom line. One of our company’s quickest success stories was a customer who kept losing competitive bids for contracts based on price. Fearing an inside leak, the customer installed our Employee Internet Management software and quickly discovered that one of his employees was being compensated for emailing confidential bid details to a major competitor. Another of our customers, a large hospital, was inundated with viruses –and not the biological sort. Computer viruses were frequently plaguing its systems, rendering them useless at times. Antivirus and antispyware software tools would successfully clean up defiled systems, but only after they wreaked havoc for users and the IT staff. The hospital installed our solution in order to identify usage patterns and determine and block likely Web sites and users that were the root cause of their issues. The hospital’s primary concern was that an employee could inadvertently download a trojan, making an infected computer a gateway to external hackers and providing unauthorized access to patient information.

The fastest growing cyber crime involves the buying and selling of intellectual property—a company’s new product designs, proprietary financial information and confidential memos. An increasing percentage of valuable corporate data is being electronically siphoned and sold to the competition. As the Wall Street Journal reported, the biggest threats to information security often don’t come from hackers. They come from a company’s own employees. The insider threat and internal surrogates are the focus of the Department of Homeland Security’s National Cyber Security Division. Malicious acts by disgruntled employees, viruses picked up in e-mail spam or from seemingly innocuous Web sites and corporate espionage are all areas that require conscientious governance. Security risks may also be inadvertent. Take Phishing for example. Here, a phony Web site dupes unsuspecting users by publishing Web pages with the look and feel of the authentic Web site it intends to mimic. Suppose your accounts payable clerk receives an email from what appears to be your company’s bank. She responds to the email which asks her to click on a Web link to update her email address. As expected, her Web browser opens and she is taken to a site that has been built with the exact look and feel of your bank’s Web site. As usual, the clerk is prompted to enter her secure user name and password. After entering her credentials, nothing visually happens. However, something very damaging does happen; The Phishing site has captured her credentials and the authors of the phony site can now access your account at the authentic bank Web site. The bottom line is if you are in business and your employees use computers, you need to protect your data against unauthorized access – both internally and external – and the best methods for doing so are always a balance between technology and personnel management.

7 Online Dating Safety Tips for Seniors

Online dating services via the Internet are fast becoming a very popular way to meet others and form relationships. And the services are popular for seniors as well.

People at this stage of life are sometimes experiencing the loss of lifelong spouses and suddenly find themselves in a situation where they are lonely. For some, the thought of being lonely is too much and they would like to find someone else to share the remainder of life with so they turn to online dating services. But seniors must be careful that in their eagerness they don’t overlook some things to watch out for in online dating.

While there are many honest people providing services on the Internet, there are also many unscrupulous people who are out to take whatever they can from others – especially seniors.

Here are seven tips for seniors when it comes to online dating:

1. Limiting the amount of personal information you expose to strangers on the internet is one of the most important safety measures you as a senior (or anyone else for that matter) can take in online dating.

2. Be truthful about the pictures of yourself that you post. Take the first step to be honest with people. Don’t post pictures of yourself in your 30s when you are in your 50s.

3. You should be especially careful of revealing any information to a non-paying or free member on the dating service site. Understand that an online dating service web site is a business just like any other valid business. They need to be able to collect a fee in order to stay online and pay their expenses for web hosting service, webmaster maintenance, and fees associated with making and collecting payments. A free member trying to get you to circumvent the system and release your personal information and deal offsite is probably a scammer. He or she may not be such but the risk is too high to take chances.

4. The best tip is to try and get a background check on the person you meet in the online dating service forum. An online dating service named TheBadge.org will actually do free background checks for convicted felons and married people who join their site. And they have some pretty stern warnings for these people as well. Many also do not know that you can look up conviction information in many states in the U.S. The court systems in many states have web sites with judicial records that are available to the public. You can see if the person is divorced or has charges of domestic violence or other criminal charges.

5. When you have arranged a first date, meet in a public place. Also, tell a friend or close family member where you are going for this date and the times you will be there. Take a cell phone. There is much less likelihood that something will happen in a public place.

6. Be careful of persons you are communicating with for a possible date who ask a lot of questions but will not answer your questions. Con artists and predators are very skilled at getting information they need by formulating questions in such a manner that they derive the answers. You can actually give them information you never intended to give. And because these predators know this, they will not answer your questions because you might figure out who they really are.

7. And finally, a good rule to always follow is if something does not feel right, don’t proceed with it. You will be able to tell when the person you are communicating with is not quite right. Something inside of you will alert you. Listen to that hunch inside of you. It could keep you out of a lot of trouble.

Follow these rules and you will increase the chances that your online dating adventure will be a safe and memorable one.
