How do I get black bars when playing video games?

I have a 18.5 in westinghouse widescreen monitor, L1920nw. Whenever I play video games that don’t have widescreen resolutions they stretch to fit the screen. I’ve noticed that both my brother and a friend of mine when they play games on their laptops that are not widescreen resolutions the screen fits with black bars similar to watching non-hd channels on an hd tv how can I get this to occur on my computer

I have a wireless modem on my computer, but not sure if I have it secure. I have Norton. How can I be sure?

I am not computer literate and need to know if my computer can be hacked by others. How do I check. I am running Windows 2000, and added the wireless myself. Got it to work but not sure it’s protected from outsiders. I use Norton antivirus, but have no idea if there is a firewall active to block outside users. Step by step instuctions would be greatly appreciated. LOVE THIS SIGHT!
