Cellular phone technology has come a long way; starting with the conventional cell phone which were basically designed to be communication devices and nothing more. They could only be used to make and receive calls, as well as sending and receiving messages. Although this was an improvement from the older fixed telephone lines and the wireless phones that were in existence, the cellular phones were still a far cry from what we know today. For instance, they were too bulky and too expensive. The reason given then was that since it was a new technology, the costs had to be high.
With time, manufacturers saw the potential that lay in having cellular phones. Therefore, they kept improving these devices and within a few years, the mobile phones started getting smaller and trendier. This was not enough for the technology hungry consumers, who kept demanding more. Less than a decade had passed and the technology had become cheaper; therefore, manufacturers went into overdrive, incorporating more features into the cell phones to make them much more than the basic communication device it was. The addition of multimedia functions and internet connectivity among other features saw the rise of the smartphone.
These smart devices were an invention like no other, as they managed to break the barrier that initial cell phone devices had failed to do – that of creating an all-in-one device that could be used for communication, entertainment, lifestyle and many other functions that are a part of our day to day life. Encouraged by the success of these devices, manufactures looked at the current trends in technology and were quick to see the rise of touch screen technology. Therefore, they decided to incorporate this new technology and thus they came up with the touch phone.
The touch devices are really convenient devices to say the least, owing to the fact that the need to have keypads or a full QWERTY keyboard for mobile phones has been eliminated. This touch screen technology is what also spurred the growth of the Tablet, a device that lies between a smart mobile phone and a personal computer. Tablets have the best of both cell phones and personal computers, in terms of features and functionality. It comes with the processing power of a computer that enables it to run different applications and, at the same time, has the features of a normal mobile phone, which enables it to be used for communication purposes.
