Windows Security Tips

Over the past recent years security has become the major concern of the internet users. It is important to keep your home computer secure from the viruses, hackers, spyware and other security threats. These security tips are applied on the Windows based operating systems such as Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Professional and Windows 2003 Server. The general methods of securing your computer and network is keeping your operating system up-to-date, installing up-to-dated antivirus program, anti spyware program, applying security templates, restricting the access to computer server of unauthorized users and applying security patches Microsoft’s website.

The major threats to computer are viruses, spyware, accidental deletion of the files, information theft and unauthorized access. More and more malicious codes are being are written to develop the viruses, Trojan horses, spyware, malware and adware.

Applying local security policies on each computer in a network is a must and you can access the local security policies in the Administrative tools in the Window’s control panel or by simply running it secpol.msc or gpedit.msc. Remmeber that the key policies that should be enabled are audit login for the failed events, creating password policies and requiring Ctrl+Alt+del for login.

If you have made a shared folder in your computer to be accessed by the other users in network, make sure that you have set the permissions to access this folder to only the required users. If you haven’t secured the shared folder by restricting the permissions then your sensitive information can be leaked and your data can be deleted accidentally from the shared folder.

If your computer is directly connected to the internet through Dial up connection, DSL or cable net you need to protect your computer by connecting the hardware firewall and it is also a good idea to install and configure the software firewall as well. In Windows XP there is built in Firewall installed and you can turn it on and off by going to control panel and select “Network and Internet Connections”. You can also try Sygate personal firewall.

Another security measure is to identify the mysterious processes running at the backend with the operating system. These processes starts when the Windows startup. Identify the description and command line instructions for each process.

Bad or weak passwords are the most important causes of the security compromises. A password should never be a dictionary word. A password has less chance to be cracked if it has been changed regularly. Always use the combinations of the alphanumeric, symbols and spaces between words etc to make strong password.

Last but not the least security measure is to encrypting your important files so that they can’t be accessed and read by the unauthorized users.

Marketing With The iPod

Whenever something new, exciting and revolutionary is introduced to the general public, it’s nearly a given that other corporations, companies and interests want to hitch their branding wagon to that train. And with the Apple iPod Nano, it was, and still is no different. The Apple iPod transformed the way the whole world thinks about where it takes it music. Soon after its release, you could walk around any hip metropolitan street and see those instantly recognizable white ear buds poking through the collars and jackets of many people, young and old, male and female. So, it didn’t take a marketing genius to figure out that all those iPod listeners represent a huge target audience. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your point of view, a marketing genius did realize that.

Many companies that, at first glance, would have very little to do with the Apple iPod, soon lined up to be associated with the world’s most popular portable digital music player. Before you knew it, there were charities working together with Apple to create an iPod Nano with that charity’s logo and colors on it. It was a great way for a charity to appear current by working together with the Apple iPod Nano line as well as reaching a younger, more technologically savvy demographic that it otherwise would not have reached.

However, even though charities recognized the power of the iPod, it was the music industry itself that has taken the greatest advantage of the reach and visibility of the iPod. Now, the music industry generally frowns upon downloading music from a computer onto an iPod without paying for it. But, some people in the music world realized that the iPod Nano is so popular, that there are people who won’t listen to music in any other format besides on their iPod. So, if you aren’t working with the iPod, you are working against certain segments of your target audience.

Some bands decided to directly associate themselves with the iPod Nano; U2 being the biggest and most recognizable band to do so. A special U2 version of the iPod was released, and selected songs from an upcoming album were only available to be heard via the iPod. Of course, innovative, expensive and exceptionally cool marketing and advertising campaigns were released. Because of this foresight, two goals were achieved. One, of course, was to work together with the Apple iPod Nano to get the music and songs released and introduced to the public. The second goal was that U2 did not appear to be anti-download and embraced the iPod and everything it can do.

In the early days of music downloading, there were many bands who scoffed at the idea of having their music listened to for free. As a result, they appeared to be greedy, out of touch and completely against the wishes of their fans. But, with the advent of the Apple iPod Nano, it is now imperative that if the whole world is going to be listening to this little device, then they might as well be listening to you.

Better Satellite Television With Directv

Over the past few years many people all over the world have switched from standard cable or old fashioned “rabbit ear” television to satellite TV. Satellite TV is quickly becoming the new standard for television all over the world. In the first years of satellite television, the only people who were really able to afford to pay the costs were the wealthy. This was in part by the fact that back then the satellite dish itself was extremely expensive. On top of the high prices of equipment, like the satellite dish and other satellite TV necessities, the monthly costs of most satellite providers was extremely high and made cable television seem very inexpensive by comparison. However, most people still wanted to have satellite television in their home and dreamed of a time that they themselves would be able to actually afford it. Since that time a lot has changed in satellite television technology.

For one, the satellite dishes have become much more efficient, much much smaller, and a great deal more affordable. Because satellite service has been around so long, the price of the actual monthly service and channels itself has also dropped considerably. This, of course, is not to say that all satellite providers offer great value and affordability. Unfortunately, there are still many satellite TV providers that would have you believe that they are the most affordable and then hit you with hidden and unexpected costs. A lot of times these costs would be hidden and disguised as hard ware fees, maintenance fees, set up fees, and installation fees. This of course would cause a great deal of stress and financial discomfort to the poor and unsuspecting television viewer deceived. Fortunately, even this seemingly regular problem of more modern satellite television is quickly becoming a thing of the past. directv is one satellite provider that offers incredibly value and affordability without unexpected costs and fees.

Because DirecTV has been able to create such great deals, many other satellite providers will most likely try to follow suit and cut out some of their fees as well. However DirecTV takes pride in being the leading provider of customer satisfaction in satellite television and most likely will remain that way for many years to come. Actually, DirecTV has been ranked as being the number one satellite television provider in the field of customer satisfaction for over six years and still going strong.

DirecTV offers great features along with their incredible value and affordability. User friendly and reliable parental controls, High Definition format compatibility, free hardware (including the satellite Dish, the Hughes brand receiver, TiVo, and DVR) and installation, a large variety of channel packages in many price ranges, and movie channels are some of the great features offered through DirecTV. Also DirecTV actually gives the option of having free installation done in up to 4 different rooms in your workplace or home. This of course would include duplicates of the needed hardware as well. Chances are, if you do not already have DirecTV you simply have not heard much about them. Continue your search into them and take a closer look at some of their options.
