For the first time in history of telecommunications law the FCC has given its stamp of approval to online discrimination.

Instead of a rule to protect Internet users’ freedom to choose, the Commission has opened the door for broadband payola – letting phone and cable companies charge steep tolls to favor the content and services of a select group of corporate partners, relegating everyone else to the cyber-equivalent of a winding dirt road.

Instead of protecting openness on wireless Internet devices like the iPhone and Droid, the Commission has exempted the mobile Internet from Net Neutrality protections. This move enshrines Verizon and AT&T as gatekeepers to the expanding world of mobile Internet access, allowing them to favor their own applications while blocking, degrading or de-prioritizing others.

Instead of re-establishing the FCC’s authority to act as a consumer watchdog over the Internet, it places the agency’s authority on a shaky and indefensible legal footing — giving ultimate control over the Internet to a small handful of carriers.

I have a Toshiba Satellite that isn’t more than seven months old. Couple months ago, the hinges began to crack and snap every time the lid was open. Now the screen is barely supported and the casing near the hinges is actually raised. I just wanted to know if this is a common problem for Toshibas and if it’s worth getting fixed.

As you may or may not know, I’m in school studying law, soon to be a lawyer, and I am considering suing the RIAA and the MPAA for civil rights abuses. I firmly believe that their mission of anti-piracy is truly a campaign that is based on pure greed with an utter disregard for human liberty. I gave a speech at school that identified the RIAA, MPAA, and the “cyber police” as the New Axis of Evil. Evidence of this can be seen in a piece of legislation called the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA). This legislation seeks to allowed the Axis of Evil to monitor all your web activity in order to detect whatever they decided is copyright violations. Another portion of the act would allow all your electronic devices to be scanned at airports to detect illegally obtained content. The Axis would then proceed to sue people who downloaded $15 worth of music for $200,000, which is their usual MO.

Juries are easier to appeal to emotion and I have a potential client who has a situation is highly emotionally exploitable.
No, but I do believe people have a right to privacy and should have an expectation of privacy for what they do in their own homes. (Roe v. Wade, Lawrence v. Texas, etc.)
