Andhra University [Also known as Andhra Viswa Kala Parishad] which is located in Visakhapatnam was established in the year 1925. It is one of the oldest premier universities in India. It is the first university in India to offer an Under Graduate program from 1957. There are 5 districts that are affiliated to Andhra University such as Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram. The College of Arts & Commerce is the biggest college in the University.
It was headed by the Vice-Chancellors Dr. Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy from 1926 to 1931 and Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan from 1931 to 1936. The present Vice-Chancellor for Andhra University is Dr. Beela Satyanarayana.
Infrastructure
The University has more than 100 buildings in the surroundings of Kailasagiri Hills. There are 19 hostels for men, 4 hostels for women and 340 Staff quarters that university provides. The University contains two sections, South Campus & North Campus in which the south campus has Art & Science departments, administrative block and the North campus has engineering college. There are 575 colleges affiliated to Andhra University and more than 3400 teaching & non-teaching staff.
Education
The Distance Education program was started in the year 1972 in the following streams –
B.A., B.Com., B.Sc. (MPC, MPCS and MSCS), M.A. English, Hindi, Telugu, Economics, History, Politics & Public Administration, Sociology, Philosophy and Mathematics, M.Com, M.Ed., B.Ed., and eight P.G. Diploma Courses through Distance Education Mode.

* Rising sun with rays of light which are surrounded by Swastika
* A Lotus which is the seat of Goddess Lakshmi & Saraswati which is opening at the break of dawn.
* An Ocean that resembles the vast region of knowledge.
* Two serpents which represent the seekers and custodians of wisdom.
Employment
The University has great employment resources. The students who studied in the campus will have a very bright future. It provides employment related guidance to all the students. There is a special cell called as Recruitment Cell which is supposed to guide the students choose the right career.
