How do you get the screen to go full size on the Satellite pro laptop?

I have a toshiba satellite pro 4600. The window display only expands
to about a space of 66% of the available screen space. How do you set the screen to open up fully. I had a friend that set it to full size but the battery died and it went back to the smaller size
