Sony has wrapped all of this capability up into what it bills as its “Draw the Line” exterior casings. This means that its design is very attractive in a highly polished black that is complemented by a subtle half-tone mirror effect.
This Sony television comes with an included swiveling tabletop stand that can be attached to the TV in just a few seconds. Along with those four HDMI ports, Sony has thrown in most standard hookups, including VGA and digital/analog audio outs. Additionally, LAN and USB ports are also built-in, along with a headphone jack. It will be very easy to hook up most any component, in other words.
As far as high-definition goes, the Sony KDL40W5500 is near the top of the ladder when it comes to true high-definition due to is 1080p capability. 1080 is now industry-standard to be considered true high-def, by the way. Almost all experts are extremely complimentary about the quality of the picture display shown on this Sony, too. Blacks are very deep and sunwashed colors look amazingly crisp and clear. The TV’s also excellent at handling video gaming duties, which many televisions in this segment lack the capability to do well.
Sony has also included a surround sound function within the TV, and the sound is more than acceptable. It is extremely easy to hook up a home theater system to this particular model, which most people are probably going to want to do. It also features 100 MHz motion technology functions which help to make the picture very stable under most conditions.
Understanding and appreciating the Sony KDL40W5500 LCD TV is extremely easy to do because Sony has made a flat panel liquid crystal display TV that does most everything well and not much very badly at all. If one looks at just its nice price and the picture display it puts up, it’s easy to see why the TV’s been one of the better sellers since its debut in the spring of 2009. Throw in its excellent videogaming functionality, and it’s easy to see why the TV is so easy to like.
