The iPad Tablet, otherwise just known as the iPad, is a computerized device used for many different things. It is made by Apple and is part of their new touch screen product like, like an iPhone. It is used primarily for reading eBooks, so it is therefore the convenient size of an open book. The other big competitor for this product is Kindle, by Amazon. This has more options than Kindle since it is more than just a device for reading.
The iPad will be available to buy by the end of March, 2010. Orders have started since the product was officially released and it has sold thousands in the first month. This is because its first major appearance anywhere in public was when it was used on stage at the Grammy Awards. The host read the winner from it.
From the back you might think it was a really small laptop and from the front you may think it was a really huge iPhone. It is just a very flat computer system that does not stand up. It must be held. It also does not have a mouse or keyboard that come with it, though they can be added. It is more used as a music player, book downloader, and sound recorder with the ability to make phone calls and connect to the web.
It is fairly light, weighing one and a half pounds. Considering what it can do, this is extraordinarily light. It looks the simplest of all Apple products (meaning that the technology is very sophisticated, it just does not have a lot of frills). It has but one USB port and a single headphone jack. The rest of the iPad is completely smooth.
This product had been in the works for seventeen years before it was finally released in January 2010. Its long production ensured firstly that all the major kinks and problems could be worked out. It secondly made the hype over the product far more than it would have been over any other Apple product.
Its price starts at a staggering five hundred dollars, which has not slowed sales at all. This is purely for the tablet itself, not for any accessories. You can buy a mouse or keyboard to plug in if you wish, in addition to other normal computer accoutrement. Though sales are through the roof, critics wonder at the few features offered on the iPad. They may be offered as part of an upgrade package later. There is currently no video camera, nor can you run more than one program at a time.
The name has certainly created some waves and has had a lot of talk about it. Some have laughed at it due to its hygienic connotations. Others were upset that the iPad was not a name originally owned by Apple. There was another project in the works named iPAD, though the name was abandoned for something else. Apple then used it, though it is unclear if the rights to the name belong to the original user or not. It will be difficult for Apple to change it now, though, since it is ready to go out to stores.
Lawyers from both sides are unsure to whom the name legally belongs and if there is an impending law suit. It is doubtful it will harm sales at all, though it may delay the product reaching shelves. If there is one, it will be cutting it very close to the release date.
