Will the criminals who are hacking Wikileaks ever be brought to justice?

Recently, Wikileaks embarrassed the ruling class by exposing the truth about the Pentagon and the State Department. They did this even though they, for some unfathomable reason, “redacted” many important portions of their leaked documents. Recently, some freedom haters among the ruling elite have been calling for reprisals against Wikileaks. For example, Attorney General Eric Holder wants to close the “loopholes” called the 1st Amendment that allow Wikileaks to operate, as do Senators Lieberman (Al Gore’s running mate), Ensign, and Brown. Numerous figures absurdly claim that Wikileaks is a “terrorist” organization or that Julian Assange, an Australian, is guilty of “treason” against the US government (which is impossible, as he isn’t an American). As Assange is not an American, American law does not apply to him. One of the most disgusting smears of Assange has been the clearly false accusations of “rape” by 2 lying Swedish women named Anna Ardin and Sofia Wilén (the media won’t tell you those names, but I did).

However, even more disgusting than the politicians trying to silence Wikileaks and the bogus accusations against him is the fact that criminals are being permitted to hack them with impunity. Wikileaks even had their domain name stolen from them by their DNS provider because of the unrelenting attacks by cyber-criminals against Wikileaks. These attacks are ultimately self-defeating, as the information is being copied to countless “mirror” web sites. Should Wikileaks ever be successfully censored or hopefully if Assange is arrested by the gestapo (which will probably happen soon), the encryption key for the Insurance file will be released and the whole truth will be revealed, making things even worse for those who wish to silence Wikileaks (and I can only say that they will have brought it on themselves, as they could have minimized the damage by just ignoring Wikileaks instead of issuing fatwas against them).

Julian Assange has done nothing wrong, but appears to be well on his way to being turned into a martyr for the principles of transparency and the free society. Presumably, the real criminals who hack Wikileaks will continue to get away with it and will be encouraged to continue committing more criminal acts by the powers that be. If they succeed in destroying Wikileaks, they will achieve nothing more than a Pyrrhic victory just as the RIAA achieved a merely Pyrrhic victory against Napster. If they desire to minimize the damage, they will cease and desist the denunciations of Wikileaks and the persecution of Julian Assange and will instead go after the criminals who are hacking Wikileaks. The alternative will only be self-defeating, but it will be a well-deserved defeat for those enemies of freedom. Either the powers that be can surrender and minimize their defeat or they can attempt quixotically to stand athwart the forces of history and be buried beneath them. Personally, I think they will choose the latter and I hope they do so, as they deserve everything they have coming to them and a lot more.
