Your Next Movie Download Might Be One Of These Interesting Films

There have been so many movies made over the last century that it can be hard to choose titles for your movie downloads. New films seem to appear daily, crowding out older ones. However, there are many movies that remain true classics but are often overlooked.

In 1958, the film “A Night to Remember” was released, and it may be the most authentic account regarding the Titanic sinking. It featured a large cast, but probably the best known to American audiences were Honor Blackman, Kenneth More, and David McCallum. At the time it was written, there were many survivors still living, and extensive interviews were conducted, providing many details about the night.

Everyone considers John Wayne one of the most prolific stars of the American cinema. “Stagecoach” is often cited as the role that made him famous, but he turned in better performances. Among his best were “The Searchers”, “The Shootist”, “The Sands of Iwo Jima”, “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”, and “The Quiet Man”. His 1954 film, “The High and the Mighty” was the original airplane disaster movie, and, like later films of the type, had a cast of stars. The action is set on a flight that comes into dire circumstances over the Pacific Ocean. It was kept off the market for many years and was rarely seen.

Fans of romantic comedies might like “The Philadelphia Story” with Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and James Stewart. Hepburn plays an upper crust society icon who is about to remarry. Grant is her ex-husband who arranges for reporter Stewart to cover the wedding for a tabloid. “Pride and Prejudice” starred Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson in a 1940 adaptation of the novel by Jane Austen.

If horror is your preference, the 1973 film, “The Legend of Hell House” stars Roddy McDowell as a medium who returns to the house that almost took his life. And of course, “The Exorcist” and “Poltergeist” have stood the test of time and remain classics.

Two truly interesting films that many have never seen are “55 Days at Peking” and “The Gods Must Be Crazy”. The first covers the siege of the foreign compound in Peking during the Boxer Rebellion of 1900. It stars Ava Gardner, David Niven, and Charlton Heston. The second is the story of a soda bottle thrown from an airplane and found by a tribe of Bushmen, who think it a gift from the gods. However, it causes jealousy, contention, and strife in a society that had known only peace. One young man volunteers to carry it to the end of the world and throw it off the cliff. Along the way, he is aided by some offbeat and hilarious characters.

Mystery fans might like “Witness for the Prosecution”, “Rebecca”, “Murder on the Orient Express” or “Death on the Nile”. Or if you are looking for an old slapstick comedy, consider “Road to Utopia” with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, Abbott and Costello in “Hold That Ghost”, or “Bringing up Baby” with Cary Grant.

Other films offered for your consideration include “Marty”, “Damn the Defiant!”, “Pork Chop Hill”, “Ice Station Zebra” and “Command Decision”. There are, of course, several thousand more that are every bit as good.
