How many apps can a iPod touch 8gig 4th gen, hold?

I want to buy the new 8gig 4th generation and was wondering how many applications it can hold. I plan to start out with 50 songs and nothing else. So then how much can i hold, i am not planning to fill the iPod up with apps though. And is there a good texting app you guys know about that you could tell me.
