Various Uses For The Breathalyzer

Many individuals regard the breathalyzer machine as a unit used by the police to prove if a person is under the influence of alcohol. A breathalyzer not only does this but it can be used by parents, teachers, by probation officers and any other person that is in an authoritative position to see if a person has been drinking.

You don’t have to be law enforcement to use a breathalyzer machine. All a breathalyzer machine does is it tests the amount of blood in your bloodstream. Of course, a blood test is far more accurate for this; but a breathalyzer test is easier to administer, especially in the field, and that’s why law enforcement use it with such regularity. But there’s no rule that states that law enforcement are the only ones who can use such a device.

Teenagers are always looking for ways to alleviate boredom; and alcohol seems to do that very thing. The problem is that teenagers aren’t old enough to drink. Of course they find ways around this. They get people to buy alcohol for them, or they steal it from their parents’ liquor cabinet. Teenagers often love to push the limits so they’ll show up for school functions drunk, or they’ll even come to class drunk. These days it’s not unheard of for teachers to administer breath tests at functions such as homecoming or prom, and they even do it for class if they suspect a child’s been drinking. Of course, the teachers who use such a device would probably have to get parental permission in order to test the children; but most parents would agree to it if it meant keeping their teen out of harm’s way.

Parents are also starting to use breathalyzer tests to keep their teens out of trouble. This test is perfect for when the teen comes home after a party or a night out with a friend. Teens will complain however, the parents make the rules. Taking the test is simple, the teen just simply blows into the device and then soon after the parent will know whether their child has been drinking or not.

Any individual that has a position of authority or power over another person can use the breathalyzer machine to ensure that whomever he or she is testing is not drunk. This person may be a probation officer, a halfway house director, or even your own boss. A boss would require the worker to sign an agreement letting him or her to do so. This way employers can help prevent accidents such as if they must drive in their job, or operate heavy machinery.

It is evident that there are many uses for a breathalyzer machine. They are not just for use by police officers. Children, individuals in the criminal justice system and even employees are discovering that several individuals use these machines so they will most likely be discouraged from drinking when they are not supposed to.
